What is Health Economics and Outcomes Research?

Health Economics and Outcomes Research (“HEOR”) focuses on understanding the economic and clinical health outcomes consequences of therapeutic interventions and specific treatment decisions.

Over the last few decades, the field of health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) has emerged to fill a perceptible knowledge gap in the healthcare field.

While clinical trials provide a robust “gold standard” for data on potential medicines and therapies, there has been an absence of real-world data about how medical treatments work and remain effective in the real-world setting.

HEOR is changing all that. Click “Learn More” to dive deeper into the field of HEOR.

Who uses HEOR data?

The end-users of the data generated by HEOR consultants are pharmaceutical manufacturers, medical device manufacturers, and consumer and provider-facing digital health organizations. They also collaborate with health plans, employers, and health systems, embedding sponsored HEOR studies within their systems.

These companies must make daily decisions as to how to position, pay for, or recommend therapeutic options to their clients or patients, and require data, often from our collaborators, to make the most informed, thoughtful, cost-effective, and clinically beneficial decisions.

HEOR consultants translate data into strategic guidance and actionable business intelligence, as well as evidence to support clinical decisions and insights.
